This week at MBPS Main Beach Property Sales

Following on from our theme of last week about our wonderful community in Main Beach and the community spirit that is here and often not seen… There are a couple of events that we felt we should highlight.
One of those events is taking place next Thursday, 27th May, 2021 and really should have been highlighted sooner, for those who may wish to attend, so our appologies for the late notice…
The Biggest Morning Tea, as a number of you will know, is a fund raising event for the Cancer Council and is run Australia wide each year. This year Our Main Beach is hosting the Main Beach Biggest Moning Tea in the former ‘Veranda Bar’ at 25 Tedder Avenue. There are limited seats availabe, so please see the flyer and the link below to purchase tickets, if you would like to be part of the wonderful community spirit. A great morning to come together to raise money for the Cancer Council. Jay Pask has very kindly donated his time…. and models for the Fashion Parade and many other local businesses have donated the Raffle Prices. Not to mention the local cafes, restaurants and bars, who are providing the ‘food’ and ‘drinks’… So, once again, how lucky are we!
The other event we are highlighting is not necessarily one you will attend, although, you are welcome to join the 2021 Vinnies CEO Sleepout, on Thursday, 17 June, at CBUS Super Stadium. Our main reason for highlighting the event is of course to assist with the fundraising. Colin Wheeler, a Main Beach local, who many of you will know, is one of the Founding Ambassadors for Vinnies CEO Sleepout. I was speaking to Colin this week and ask that he provide me with a little insight to share, which he did – in Colin’s words:
"Its our 5th year and so far we have raised $1,800,000 which has all been committed to the prevention of homelessness on the Gold Coast and has been used so far as below 1. Purchase of a property at Hicks St, Southport initially used as a counselling centre 2. Reconstruct Rendu House, Arundel from office accom to a 6 unit accommodation centre for homeless women over 60 (fastest growing segment!), open now and full 3. Sale of Hicks St (conversion cost for accommodation became too expensive) to assist in funding the Railway St, Southport Hub, a facility housing 7 agencies to assist homeless (or about to be) 4. Plans to redevelop Allied Drive to 42 units of emergency accom and a further block aimed at women over 60. Although the Coast is booming for the ‘have’s’, the existing and looming pressures on those less fortunate are and will be considerable." Some of you may remember that Wendy and I joined the sleep out, a few years ago, before my ‘new hips’… It was a remarkably interesting and satisfying experience and I am determined to be part of the event again one day... Wendy and I, in fact, had a lot of laughs, as we do – particularly when our makeshift cardboard tent blew away in the night… Thank you, Colin, for all you do!
I did intend highlighting the Vinnies CEO Sleepout 2 weeks ago and had the saying and the text already written and then ‘something’ changed - as is often the case these days… Our saying that week was to have been – “There but for the grace of God go I” - John Bradford. I seem to be saying or thinking of that quote regularly these days, together with “Don’t judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes” …
I know there are so many good causes, and I am sure all who read our Newsletter give so much, I do not expect everyone to ‘jump in’ and donate to this cause, however, I am highlighting it as it may be close to someone’s heart, as it is to mine…
