Stop and smell the Roses…
“Slow down, stop and smell the roses” a friend said this week … I said, I have planted a garden of roses in Tedder Avenue!
Researching for an appropriate saying this week, led me to “adrenaline” – a very interesting subject and in keeping with ‘stop and smell the roses’, I believe - an “adrenaline rush” can feel like “pure excitement” and can be related to ‘love’, so surely that includes doing what you ‘love to do’, so theoretically, I stop and smell the roses all day every day…
I am certainly not being critical of someone making the comment when they see that time is short and we all know life is too, so I agree we should all ‘stop and smell the roses’. However, as my dear Father would say, “hard work never killed anyone” – Thanks Dad! According to my friend ‘Google’, the meaning behind “stop and smell the roses” is “consciously directing your mind to be aware and attentive to the present moment to be able to experience and enjoy more of the world surrounding you.” And, as Mac Davis wisely said in his song “You got to Stop and Smell the roses. You've got to count your many blessings everyday.” Is that not what we do every day!
I have not attributed the saying to anyone as I could not establish its original author. Another bit of trivia for you – again according to ‘Google’, “the quote, "Stop and smell the roses," is often attributed to golfer Walter Hagen in the 1956 book "The Walter Hagen Story" but he didn't mention roses. The quote: "You're only here for a short visit. Don't hurry. Don't worry.” Also appropriate, given our busy lifestyle…
Speaking of busy, thus the Fortnightly Newsletter, once again…
