I wonder how many of you get a little frustrated, as I do, when our ‘old fashion’ courtesies/manners seem to have been lost today. I know there are many exceptions to the trends of today, with young couples bringing up their children, as we were – with social courtesies, however, are they the minority, was my question? This thought came about recently when I realised how often I step onto the grass verge off a footpath to let young teenagers or often adults with children, who are ‘self-absorbed’ pass on the footpath... I think to myself, how do older, more frail people manage? So, one day, when I was thinking how can we bring attention to this dying art of courtesy, I was walking on the beach path when I was approached by two young girls, perhaps 8 years old. One little girl said, very politely, “excuse me, I need to call the fire brigade” and I quiet innocently said “Why what is the problem?” Her reply was “Your smile has started a fire”... Well, there went all my thoughts of lack of courtesies! And my faith in the youth of today was reinstated... I said, “how nice is that, are you saying that to all the people passing?”, to which they replied with a giggle, “you are our first” - I thanked them and suggested they should keep it going...
I believe courtesies and good manners lead to success and are very relevant in all business dealings. It is the simple courtesies that make doing business with people enjoyable and often successful... Whether you are a Seller or a Buyer you are intitled to expect manners and courtesies from the Agent you are dealing with – a ‘courtesy call’ to provide feedback or a follow-up call to offer assistance – how often are those calls neglected?
We thought we would share a couple of other relevant sayings:
