I almost attributed our saying this week to my dear ‘Dad’, because as I grew up, I believed all the wise sayings were created by him... I cannot tell you how many times, throughout my childhood and leading into adultescence, I heard him say “if a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well, or not at all”. I was very fortunate in life to have such a ‘wise man’ in our household... As, I am sure many of you had in yours. His manner, his wisdom, his demeanour and character, or charisma, made it impossible not to remember and abide by his teachings in life!
In recent times I have noticed that I am hearing those words once again, from people ‘on the street’ and clients, so perhaps another example of our ‘old fashion’ ways and thoughts coming back into ‘vogue’, so to speak... Here’s hoping!
In saying that, sadly we find that in our industry there are those who are looking for just the result without care as to how ‘the job is done’, which has been the subject of our Newsletter in recent times. I hate to think that I am ‘getting too old’ for this, however I find it increasing difficult to ‘battle’ the ‘bullish’ tactics of some to acquire business. Only this week, once again, I have experienced this, where it seems acceptable to some Real Estate Agents to act outside of our very heavily regulated ‘Legislation’ – a simple thing, like obtaining an ‘Authority to Sell’. It is not up to our Sellers, and it is not about ‘Commission’, it is about having the “Authority” to introduce a buyer to a property and “Act” for the Seller, not the Buyer... It is not rocket science!
