Storms draw something out of us that calm seas don't - Bill Hybels
We thought our quote this week appropriate, given the ‘alarming’ times many lived through this past week. We trust that you are all well and safe and have survived TC Alfred’s ‘visit’ relatively unscathed... We are thinking of those who have sustained damage to their property and wish everyone all the best with the recovery process.
Clearly Bill Hybels was saying that experiencing difficult times often builds character and brings the best out in people - the ‘calm seas’ being a metaphor for easy times and suggests that difficult times or challenges reveal hidden strengths, resilience, and adaptability within us that are not apparent during periods of ease or peace. I am sure you, like I, grew up with similar words from our parents when times were tough and then, as we do now, we wonder, ‘why’ - surely, there is an easier way...
Last week in the article we shared from Dr. Helena she said “Embracing challenges is one of the most powerful ways to maintain excellent brain function as we age. Therefore, if we view stressful situations as an opportunity to grow and learn, stress can actually boost our brain”. She was not, nor were we, thinking of TC Alfred’s visit...
